Smylie Kaufman of Birmingham, Ala., and Kelsey Conway of Ventura, Calif., received the 2008 Presidents' Youth Leadership Award Thursday at the Rolex Tournament of Champions at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind. The award was created to recognize one boy and one girl American Junior Golf Association member who demonstrate leadership, character and community service through their involvement with the USGA-AJGA Youth Leadership Club - a joint initiative founded in 2006 to further develop junior golfers through volunteerism. Woodward wraps up a three-year stint as manager of golf operations for the city of San Diego by hosting the 108th U.S. Open, June 9-15 at Torrey Pines Golf Course. It is the first true, city-owned, municipal golf course ever to host a U.S. Open (state-owned municipal golf course Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., hosted the 2002 U.S. Open).
